Treatment has begun....

Time is flyin!!!! Treatment began on July 18th for Heidi and July 22nd for me. We both started with the Lupron Injections. Heidi had really bad side effects. Major hot flashes, headaches and very emotional. When she went in for her check up on July 29th, they reduced her Lupron dosage and she began taking an oral medication called Eatrace, once she started that she began feeling much better. Her next appointment is on August 5th. If all is well she will increase her dosage of Eatrace and then start taking Progesterone sometime around August 12th.

I had my second appointment today, it went well. My ovaries and follicles look good. So tonight I will decrease my Lupron Injection dosage and start my Luveris and Follistim Pen injections. Can I just say needles are NOT my thing. I am so greatful I have Nick to help me with them because I couldn't do it by myself! My next doctor appointment is on August 8th and then the last one on August 10th. I am hoping the side effects of the Luveris and Follistim are not to bad. Fingers crossed. We should be going in for our egg retrieval between August 11-13th. :) We are all so excited and can't wait for the next step of this crazy journey!!! :) Keep your fingers and toes crossed for us!!

Movin right along....

Things are moving right along and Nick and I can't believe that this is finally happening. We are soooo excited and anxious. Our surrogate Heidi has been amazing! She is so supportive and sweet. She past all of her test we requested and we will be receiving our fertility medications this week. Hopefully the legal agreement will be completed this week being it has to be done before we start our medications.

Once Heidi and I start the meds we will be monitored by our doctors to make sure that all is well. I will have 5 to 8 ultra sounds and blood work (not covered by insurance ugh...) and Heidi will have 2 to 4 ultra sounds. If all is well we will be heading to Vegas in August for our first transfer.

It's been a while.....

It has been a while since I have been on here!!! A lot has happened in the last 2 years. Nick and I have been working with a fertility clinic by the name of Nevada Fertility CARES. We have decided to have all our fertility treatments there. The laws are more friendly when it comes to surrogacy. In Utah, not so much! I am so excited to say that we have finally found a surrogate that we mesh well with and feel like she is in it for the right reasons. We have been through a few already and it has been very heart breaking being it just didn't work out. The surrogate we found lives in AZ which is great because we go down there often to visit my dad. We are currently working with an attorney to get a contract worked out so that we can begin the process. YAY!!!!! I hope everything works out and we can begin soon. Fingers and toes crossed!!

Update...

On May 5, 2009, Nick and I went to the University of Utah Reproductive Center to discuss our options in having a baby. They did an ultra sound to look at my ovaries to see if they could extract eggs from my ovaries. The result......there is something in my pelvic area blocking my ovary. The doctors are not sure what it is, so they would like me to have an MRI to see if it is something they can go through to get to my ovary to extract my eggs. If it is something blocking my ovary that they can't go through they can go through my belly button to extract my eggs, but it will cost $10,000 (not covered by insurance....ouch!) Fingers are crossed that it is nothing. On a better note, the doctor said my eggs look great! We are still looking for a surrogate. But I am not pursuing it to much right now, because we need to see if they can extract my eggs first. Once we get the okay on that then we will proceed to find a surrogate.

The Baby Journey Begins

For those of you who didn't know... I am unable to get pregnant. I had many complications as a baby and was not born with a uterus, fallopian tubes and had pre-mature ovaries. Over time one ovary has developed with healthy eggs. But still no uterus for a fetus to survive. Nick and I would like more than anything to have a little one running around the house so we have researched our options. We have decided to try to start a family through surrogacy. They would take my eggs and his sperm and inject it into a surrogate and hope that it takes. In doing this we would have our own biological child. It is about the same cost as adoption, but a little more complex. We have our first consultation at The Utah Center of Reproductive Medicine at the University of Utah Hospital on May 5, 2009. It is the first step of many to come and we are both nervous, scared and excited for this journey to begin. The next step (probably the hardest step) will be finding a surrogate. We will keep you up to date as we begin this journey!!

The Sweet Family

On September 25, 2008, we got married at Tuscany. It was beautiful. Our little family consits of me, Nick, Tori and Kodie. Tori is Nick's daughter who will be 10 on August 8. Tori currently lives in Arizona with her mom. We take Tori on almost all of her breaks and for a few weeks in the summer. We miss her when she is not with us, she is so much fun and is always happy. She is very smart and does very well in school. We are so proud of her!! Kodie is our 7 year old shephard pit mix. He is the best dog in the whole world!!

Love at First Sight

The first time we hung out was in January of 2006. I wanted to learn to Snowboard and my friend Marianne wanted to learn as well. Her boyfriend snowboards and said he would teach her and find someone to teach me. That someone was Nick. We went to Solitude and spent the whole day on the kiddy hill. Nick spent the whole day running down the run with me holding my hand so that I wouldn't fall. As we were taking our last run, I almost fell, Nick grabbed me and we both looked into eachothers eyes and we both new that we were going to be together. It was love at first sight. We have been together ever since. One of our favorite things to do together is snowboard. On January 13, 2008, Nick proposed to me on top of the mountain when we were at Steamboat. It was awesome!!
